About
A Grim History Lesson:
The Grims is a web comic series authored by Grim Jim Litz (Jimmy Litz). While the characters were first sketched in seventh grade, Grim Jim did not start writing comics until high school. There, the characters appeared in a few hand drawn, full page adventures published in a satiric magazine created for marching band.
After high school, Grim Jim attended Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Carthage's campus newspaper, The Current, began publishing The Grims as comic strips. In 2009, the strip "Teaching" went on to win 2nd place at the Associate Collegiate Press' Cartooning Awards.
The Grims no longer had a publishing avenue after graduation, but Grim Jim kept posting the adventures online. The format changed from a strip to a cube to accommodate The Grims Facebook App (created by Justin Moy). It continues to appear in this format today, though the app is no longer supported.
Starting with the seventh series, The Grims moved to Patreon. The goal was to raise money for underprivileged students in art classes all over America. Though Grim Jim benefited artistically from supportive parents and schools, many classrooms lack the financial resources for art programs and supplies. In an effort to help those classrooms, 50% of all revenue generated in Patreon goes to an art-oriented project on Donorschoose.org.
