Author's Notes on Series III
As with every new series, I tried to step up the artistic quality with the introduction of The Grims Series III. I had been talking to a design student in my undergrad classes and she had a few suggestions.
1. Ditch Comic Sans.
She explained that just because I wrote digital comics did not mean I needed to use Comic Sans. It is abhorred by the artistic community.
2. Vignette backgrounds.
A nice gradient would make the panels more visually cohesive. All the comic artists were doing it.
Series III also marked the first time (and only) time I won an award for The Grims. The comic strip "Teaching" took 2nd Place at the 2009 ACP Cartooning Awards.
